Current Research Interests

  • Noise and Animal Welfare

I am interested in the types and levels of noise that impact animal welfare, and understanding how noise impacts animal behavior, health, and welfare.

Further, I aim to create accessible and simple sound reduction strategies for widespread implementation in animal care facilities, such as animal shelters.

  • Shelter Animal Welfare

I am interested in understanding behaviour and medical interventions for the treatment of fearful animals in shelters. I have a special interest in the treatment of undersocialized cats, and interventions for decreasing shelter animal relinquishment.

  • Environmental Sustainability of Pet Ownership / Pet Food Safety

I aim to understand and minimize the environmental impacts of pet ownership. Additionally, I aim to assess emerging technologies, such as bacteriophage applications, that may help improve animal health & environmental sustainability through pet food research.

  • Technology, Data Science & Animal Welfare

I aim to identify methods for the incorporation of technology, such as Computer Vision, into animal behaviour and welfare research and care. Further, I have a special interest in animal-computer interaction and the implementation of technologies from an animal-centric perspective.

  • Dog Behaviour and Training

I am interested in science-based dog training and behaviour modification. Since 2018, I have worked as a Dog Training Standards Auditor with the British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals’ AnimalKind Program (https://animalkind.ca).
